Managing PDF Pages

First decide whether you need one combined document, several separate files, or a different set or order of pages. The output shape determines which operation to use.

Pick the operation by the output you need

Merge joins several PDFs into one PDF in the chosen file order. Split starts with one PDF and creates multiple PDFs, one per page or specified range. Extract takes selected pages from one PDF and creates a single new PDF; unlike Split, it does not produce a file for each group.

Reorder keeps all pages but changes their sequence. Remove leaves out selected pages and saves the rest as one PDF. If you only need pages 2 and 4, Extract is simpler than removing every other page.

Use PDF page positions, not printed numbers

A cover and table of contents can make PDF page 5 display a printed page number of 3. Enter the page position counted from the first PDF page, starting at 1, and check the resulting first and last pages.

Reordering does not edit page numbers printed inside the document. Before sharing a reordered file, also check cross-references and any contents page that may still point to the old positions.

Check the source and preserve the original

Confirm the intended file order and page ranges before exporting. Keep an original copy, especially when removing pages. A locked, password-protected, or damaged PDF may fail to load; these tools do not unlock files.

Merger requires at least two PDFs and accepts up to 20, with 25MB per file and 100MB combined. Split, Extract, Reorder, and Remove each accept one PDF up to 25MB and 200 pages. Split can produce many separate downloads; plan the ranges before starting. Remove cannot delete every page, and Reorder requires every page exactly once.

Where PDF processing happens

These five Utilook PDF tools read and write PDF bytes in the browser using pdf-lib. The files are not uploaded to Utilook's server and this feature does not store them in a database. A successful export sends a separate tool-use count request without the PDF content.
